The Simpsons

Anyone who knows our family, knows how much we love The Simpsons. My mother-in-law has told me that the first time Brent brought me home to meet them, she was so mortified when he turned on the TV and turned on The Simpsons. That is until she realized that I was laughing right along with him and loved them too. Then she knew that we were made for each other.

When I was in college, back before DVDs and DVR, I loved The Simpsons so much and I remember being worried that one day they might be taken off the air and I wouldn't be able to watch them anymore, so I began to record the episodes every night on VHS. (Little did I know that they would be the longest running show on TV--celebrating their 20th year this year. Nor did I know that my recordings would fortunately become obsolete and we would own all the seasons on DVD.) When Brent and I met, we spent many hours watching The Simpsons on my VHS tapes together and that tradition of watching The Simpsons has continued throughout our 11 years together. It is a family staple, something we can all enjoy watching together. My kids will protest going to bed if they haven't been able to watch The Simpsons first. I know, I know, perhaps not the best show for kids their age, but if that's the worst I do as a mom, I'll consider them lucky. Plus, it is a very clever show.

So it was only natural that our family become our favorite TV family for Halloween. I actually had wanted to do it last year, but soon realized that it would require much more advance planning than I had thought to do it right. I started in early September this year to find a suitable Marge dress and shoes and spent many hours trying to get everything else. It took quite a bit of creativity since I also didn't want to spend too much money, but it was very fun. We had a great time paying tribute to our favorite cartoon family.

Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.

Maggie makes her scary face.

Ashley and her cousin Izzy.

The kids out trick-or-treating at my mom's house in Daybreak. We had such a great time. Sarah was absolutely loving it.
