Pirate Ty

We live with a little pirate. While he may not look too fearsome, he is a true pirate. Every thought revolves around his pirate life. He has a pirate room with a treasure chest, a talking skeleton head, a "turning wheel" for his ship, many swords and guns, and even a shrunken head. Every day is filled with brave swordfights, finding treasure (Dad's spare change buried deep in his bedside table drawer), asking mom to draw new treasure maps (over and over and over), and of course, watching his hero Captain Jack Sparrow (again, over and over and over).

At first. we thought this pirate obsession was just a passing phase. Now we realize this is no phase, Ty is the real thing.

Ty's 3 Year Old Birthday picture (above) and his 4 Year Old Birthday picture (below).

For example, Ty gets horrible leg aches, usually at night and he gets them quite often. The other night he came into our room, crying over his hurting leg. He sat in our bed holding his leg to his chest, rocking back and forth while Mom went to get the medicine. He said, "Stupid leg, stupid leg. I wish I didn't have this stupid leg. Just cut it off. I want a peg leg!" See...pirate!

Also as I mentioned before, Ty now goes to St. Sophia school, which is run by the Greek Orthodox church and is held in a wing of its church building. There is a huge bell tower that chimes the hour and at the top of the tower is a cross. The first thing Ty said as he jumped out of the car and caught sight of the tower is, "Look Mom! They have treasure under there!" I realized that to him the cross was simply another "X" marking the treasure. He can spot an "X" anywhere. Cracks in the sidewalk that converge, exit signs, just about anywhere that two lines cross. I am convinced that should there ever actually be buried treasure, he has the eye to spot it. In fact I'm banking on it. Pirate Ty should turn out to provide a very nice living for himself and his family. Arghh!

Here's some pictures of Ty's pirate room.

Hey Tanner family!!! It's an old friend from 6th ward!!! Rebecca Box!!! I have been jumping from blog to blog finding all my favorite Tanners, which by the way is all of you!

I was recently called ot teach Sunday School for the 14-15 year olds and all I could think about was how on earth was I going to be able to be as cool of a SS teacher as you were! I may not have any pipe bombs at Ricks college stories but I do a pretty good job!!!Thanks for being a shinning example on how to keep their attention... it's all about embarrassing yourself and divulging secrets you'd never tell the adults!!!

Your family is so adorable and your boys room is a dream!!! Hope you don't mind me checkin in on you all!!!

All my best!

Hi Tanners. I linked from your Family members and just had to say hello. Your kids are so beautiful and so much fun. I love all the pirate pictures, what a doll he is. Luke was really intensely into trains for years. It became nice because when holidays rolled around or I was in need of a great bribe it was clear what to get. He was always happy if trains were somehow involved.
